Paracanthurus hepatus, the yellow belly blue tang. Available to you captive bred for the first time ever, direct from the farm. That's important because it means cleaner, healthier, less stressed animals delivered straight to your door, ready to thrive in your home aquarium.
Hailing from the Indian Ocean, yellow belly blue tangs are a variant of the more common Pacific blue tangs highly regarded for their striking coloration. While similar, the blue portions of yellow belly blues are even more vibrant, and the belly develops a rich yellow to match the tail. Mature specimens are simply breathtaking. It's worth noting that as juveniles they won't have the characteristic yellow belly, that begins developing once they reach maturity which typically takes about 2 years.
Purchase size is "tiny", averaging about 1"-1.25", but they are very hardy and transition well into a display with mature fish. Caution needs to be had if the display has any inhabitants willing/able to eat something of their size, or if introducing with another blue tang already in the exhibit as they often will fight for territory.
