Odontanthias katayamai, the rose anthias.  This fish is so rare, if you've even heard of it it's most commonly only known by its latin name, the katayamai anthias.  First imported into the United States a mere four years ago, these fish come from extremely deep waters (up to 1000 ft) off the coast of Japan and Taiwan.  Often the wild fish that are made available to the ornamental trade are caught on traditional hook and line gear and vented at the surface.  Fortunately, these captive bred rose anthias didn't have to make that extensive journey, they're born acclimated to the surface pressures of a home aquarium.  They also have less stringent temperature requirements, successfully being kept into the mid 70's.  Their wild counterparts can be somewhat cryptic, but these captive bred juveniles love the spotlight and come begging for food.  They're trained to eat pellets and frozen meaty foods, and will grow into an absolute show stopping centerpiece of your aquarium.

Did we mention they glow in the dark?  That's right, these fish actually fluoresce under UV lighting!  You've never seen anything like it.  We recommend some supplemental UV light bars to really show them off in all their glory.

They're currently about 1.5", eating TDO C2 small pellets, LRS Nano Reef Frenzy and Hikari mysis.

True fish collectors will jump on this opportunity to get themselves a pair, where you’ll really see the magic of this species come to life.  An adult male rose anthias is truly unlike anything else, and has to be seen in person to truly appreciate.  Get yours while they’re still available!
